Join us for alternating rapid and age group championships every Saturday!

The Rapid Championship is open to ages 6 and up (adults welcome), with a registration fee of $35.
The Age Group Championship is open to participants aged 6 to 12 with a registration fee of $58.

Our tournaments are FIDE-rated, and so only players with a FIDE ID may participate. If you do not have a FIDE ID, please read this article to find out how to obtain one.

 FAQs

  • Our Age Group Championship is only for players aged 6-12 as of 1 Jan 2026 (i.e. they are born in 2013 or later). It is beginner friendly and the minimum recommended level to play is the ability to play a full game of chess without illegal moves.

    Our Rapid Championship is suitable for ages 6 and up (adults welcome) and generally has a stronger playing field. A minimum online (chess.com or lichess) rating of 800 is recommended.

  • A FIDE ID is a number that all players need to register and participate in rated chess tournaments globally. Please find out more, including how to obtain one, at chess.sg/fide-id.

  • You should arrive between the “Doors Open” timing and the “Round 1” timing. If you are early, you would typically be allowed to enter and relax in the waiting room before the tournament starts. When you reach, there is no need to register. Players may proceed straight to their boards (which will be shown on the screen) and parents may enter the premise and ensure their kids are well settled-in. Parents will be requested to leave when the first round begins.

  • Registration closes when (1) slots fill up or (2) on 11am of the day of the tournament, whichever is earlier. Participants are encouraged to sign up early to secure a slot.

  • If the tournament is full, please join us for the next tournament instead. Due to limited tables and chairs, we are unable to add additional slots for a tournament once it is full. Very occasionally, a participant will withdraw, in which case the tournament will become bookable again until the slot is taken up. To preserve fairness between all tournament players, we do not accept waitlist requests. Fastest fingers first!

  • For the Age Group Championship, players can face opponents aged 12 and below. Prizes are by age category (top 3 U9, U11, and U13 players)

    For the Rapid Championship, players can face opponents of any age from 6 up, adults included. However, there are age category prizes (best U9, U11, and U13 player)

  • This is not necessary as our venue is equipped with everything your child could need, including snacks, a toilet, and a waiting area. However, they are recommended to bring a water bottle as bottled water and drinks are only available as a purchase.

  • As we would like to reserve our waiting room for players, parents will generally not be allowed to remain in the clubhouse during the tournament. Please drop off your kids and come back for the prize presentation or at the end of the event. However, if the number of players for a given tournament is 20 or fewer, parents will be allowed to wait in our waiting room.

  • We provide free-flow light snacks for all tournaments, while $2 drinks may be purchased at our venue at affordable prices via PayNow or cash.

  • The Chess.sg Clubhouse is conveniently located at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, #18-01. It’s a short 3 minute sheltered walk from Beauty World MRT Station without the need to cross any roads. Please click here for travel directions.

  • Your can bring a water bottle and jacket for the tournament

  • Yes, please read “How to prepare for your first chess tournament”

  • Players are allowed unlimited reschedules to other chess.sg tournaments of the same type. The only requirement is that we are informed by 12pm on the day before the tournament. To reschedule, please Whatsapp us the following information: (1) the (parent’s) name the booking is under, (2) the current tournament date and (3) the new date you would like to reschedule to.

  • Age Group Championships are from 1pm - 5:45pm.

    Rapid Championships are from 1pm - 7:30pm.

  • Please let us know in advance so our arbiters can unpair you for the round. You will either receive a 0.5 point bye or 0 points for that round, depending on the circumstances.

  • We understand that some players may be booking flights to come and play, so we will try our very best to never cancel a tournament. The good news: we have run over 50 tournaments and have never cancelled a tournament before!
