About the camp
The Stop Blundering Camp is suitable for players aged 6–12 who know the rules but either do not play online or are rated below 700 on Chess.com.
Every young player knows the pain: you're winning the whole game, then one careless move throws it all away. This camp is dedicated to the single most important skill in chess: not giving away your pieces. Through our "Blunder Alarm" system, campers will learn a simple pre-move checklist that catches hanging pieces, missed threats, and one-move traps before they happen. We'll study the most common beginner mistakes, practice defensive thinking, and turn sloppy play into solid, confident chess. By the end of the week, your child will think twice before every move, and win the games they used to throw away.
Registration is currently open and will close once all 8 slots have been filled.

Schedule
Monday: Hanging Pieces
"The Blunder Alarm" Campers learn the #1 reason beginners lose: leaving pieces undefended. We introduce the Blunder Alarm checklist, a simple 3-step habit to check before every move.
Tuesday: Threat Detection
"What's My Opponent Doing?" Most blunders happen because players ignore their opponent's ideas. Kids practice the art of asking "what does that move do?" before touching their own pieces.
Wednesday: Trading Traps
"Is This Trade Actually Good?" Not every capture is a good capture. Campers learn to count attackers vs defenders, avoid bad trades, and stop falling for bait.
Thursday: Time Trouble & Impulse Moves
"Slow Down to Speed Up" The biggest blunders happen when you move too fast. Through timed exercises, kids learn to balance speed with accuracy, and discover that slowing down actually wins more games.
Friday: The Anti-Blunder Tournament
"Clean Chess Challenge" A special tournament format where bonus points are awarded for clean games with zero blunders. Learn to win without giving anything away!
